Our Nice New Morning Routine...All Thanks To A New Med...

Fri 8:07am -- Just got the wife & king off to school. We've had a real nice routine in the mornings the past couple of weeks.

All thanks to a new medicine the Kyle is taking.

Let me explain.

Kyle is now taking a very small dose of a medicine called "synthroid" because he appears to have
hypothyroidism.

I don't want to get into the why's and how's and how comes right now. Let's just say we did blood work for something else and that blood work indicated that his thyroid levels were off. Follow up blood work a few weeks later confirmed it. So we're trying this med for a few weeks and then we'll see if his levels are going in the right direction. He showed no signs or symptoms of hypothyroidism and so far he's shown no side effects of the med. It's a new thing and we and he are dealing with it swimmingly so far. (Knock on wood)

Ok so back to the great morning routine.  So we were told to give Kyle this med synthroid in the morning on an empty stomach and to wait at least 30 minutes before giving him any food or any other meds.

So because of this new med it's forced us all to get up a little bit earlier on school days. We give him the synthroid and then we all stay upstairs, in his bedroom and our bedroom, away from the kitchen for the next half hour.

There's been a lot of cuddling with us in bed.  We'll throw on one of his DVD fav's and we'll get him washed and dressed upstairs. And wifey or I will head downstairs to start his lunch.

When the half hour is up we all head downstairs, we make him some popcorn & chocolate milk and put him in front of Sesame Street as wifey and I continue to get ourselves ready.

And he is happy as a lark, yumming away and happily sitting on the couch or bouncing on the ball...

There'll be an occasional "stop touching the lamp" or "hands out of your pants" or "put IT away" but for the most part it's been a stress free nice morning routine we've established the past couple of weeks...

.... all thanks to the new med synthroid...with an assist (as always) from popcorn...

That's it...

OVER AND OUT...

THE END.

  1. I too have an out of wack thyroid, I have been on diff forms of synthroid since 3rd grade and I'll be 30 this year. Getting that figured out and on the right meds was the best ever! Mine messed up my sleeping, I could NOT fall asleep at night and once I finally did id be up every couple hrs crying for my mom :-/ once I graduates Hs, it had evened itself out and I didn't need the synthroid anymore but pregnancy brought it back, I was on meds for hyper- with my first daughter (my 'normal' kiddo lol) and then hypo- with my second (my yet to be diagnosed aspie). So glad they found it before it got really out of wack!

  2. My son is 11 yrs old and severe ASD/ non-verbal and obsessively touches the lamp too-- btw he is starting to want to touch himself but he isn't doing it that often is it going to become a "thing" and occasionally touching is just the beginning?

  3. Have you been following research on using Medical Marijuana for seizures? I am hesitant but it appears to be making remarkable strides with slowing or even stopping seizures. Our son does not have seizures but if he did I would consider this. It is not as bad as we have all been told.

  6. When I was a kid my immune system went on a thyroid attack. Within a week it was dead as a doornail, but it took weeks for the dr's to get a clue. I've been taking thyroid meds for decades. Congrats on getting the answers, and on heading in a better direction.

  7. I headed into comments thinking I would comment about how my husbands suggestion to stop doing so much chores and spend more time with my son has had the same effect on my son, he has been snuggling, kissing and showing so much affection. He has an overall cheery disposition. But now Im mortified with the pipi touching!!!! I have a decade to prepare D:
