A Bizarre Tuesday: Coughing and Limping… and Laughing?

Tues 8:44pm — The end of a bizarre day.

I took the day off from work to hang with the wife while Kyle was in school. That was kinda nice. ๐Ÿ™‚

But in Kyle news… Kyle’s had a lingering bad cough for about a week now. No other symptoms, just a cough.

Then this morning, from out of nowhere. He started limping pretty badly with his right leg, heavily favoring his left leg.

He went thru a stretch a few years back when he went thru phases where he’d have an unexplained limp. It would last a few weeks/months. We’d run around getting X-rays and visiting Drs with no answers and then it would just go away on its own and return 6 months later. I mentioned the limp on the AD FB page last year and a bunch of people said it could be growing pains.

So today I was chalking it up to growing pains and hoping that’s all it was and we wouldn’t be spending Black Friday at the Drs office.

So about 7:30pm today it was just a bizarrely comical scene at the ol’ AD household.

There’s my son coughing a lot while
RUNNING around limping and laughing HYSTERICALLY.

The cough sounded PAINFUL. The limp looked PAINFUL and my son is coughing and laughing and jumping on his bed while favoring his left leg and laughing.

And the wife is like “oh yeah he’s in A LOT of pain, yeah right. He’s been to enough Drs lately. I’m not bringing him for this.”

It was pretty funny.

Oh and during his bath tonight I noticed that his right big toe might be a little swollen and his toe nail is a little grey so the limp might be from that…although he didn’t really flinch when I touched it. So who knows? If only he could tell us.

That’s all I got to report tonight. That’s all i really wanted to say. He just fell asleep in our bedroom on our bed after watching “Jack’s Big Music Show” and I’m writing this on my iPhone under the covers in the dark so I don’t disturb the King.

He’s got no school til Monday for the Thanksgiving break so it should be a LONG week.

There’s a lot of other things going on too, issues with his behavior at school, some complaints about the school and its class size this year, and some issues with his breath holding, but that’s way too much for one blog post. So I’ll save that for another day.

Today’s post was meant to be about limping, coughing, and laughing.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  1. Loved these boots for Halloween. Tried to wear them a couple times after…not for Halloween and they started to fall apart after the 3rd time wearing them.
    Leg Avenue Women's Anna Boot
For the price, you get a pretty decent product but it does fall apart quickly. Overall they are great for one time wear and look great, but I wouldn't try wearing these for more than a couple of times. http://legavenuewomensannaboot.blogspot.com/

  2. glad he is still happy and able to laugh but hope his toe and his cough and his over all limping get better soon.

Happy Thanksgiving to your and your wonderful family ๐Ÿ™‚ I really appreciate your blog and page ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I am autistic myself, and like Kyle,I shave seizures. At least five different kinds.I also have lots of hemangiomas. One of the type of seizures I have,is called a gelastic seizure, also called a laughing seizure. They are common in autism, and can also show up as intense anger.I have been found to be a double positive for folate autoantibodies, both of them. Most of my seizures, indeed almost all of my autism, went away with folinic acid/leucovorin,but I still have these laughing seizures from time to time.*

I don't know if Kyle has any of these benign tumors, they are congenital, and don't require surgery, but it is something to consider. They can also show up after an infection,so they may also have an autoimmune element.

*This is not surprising with this type of autism, although it took three years of treatment, and lots and lots tests to get here.It used to require a spinal tap,now it can be done with an experimental blood test, that I had done this year.Finding out I have cerebral folate deficiency, and treating it,is really something to be thankful for.

  4. I'm laughing with him ! My son laughs when other people get hurt, or when people sneeze a lot, he also limps occasionally, he's totally flat footed and running up and down the stairs constantly ( I have a split level) When he limps he is very dramatic, and he giggles. We've done the Doctor thing too ! It's okay as long as were not in public, all of the sudden he will be claiming " Mom but I'm limping !I need to go the hospital! He's giggling while people are staring at me like OMG Help your kid ! lol A cart full of chicken nuggets and microwave popcorn doesn't help either! Limping, not fed properly ….Just another day ! ๐Ÿ™‚

I just had to go pick up my son for limping in school and of course the school call they don't deal with anything outside of education an the iep. I go he can hardly walk to the car but when we get home he run into the house so I call the teacher who said oh well we can't make him walk and we want pull on him so you need to deal with him about that. If only people would try to understand instead of reminding me he's my child and only mine child so stop whining to others and blaming them for my problems.

My daughter had this limping thing at the tail end of a cold. It ended up being this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transient_synovitis
It was not the toxic dangerous version just a virus settling in her hip and causing inflammation. Weird!! But it went away in a few weeks and all is well.

Mmmm…I also am limping and coughing today. I am not laughing though. Twisted knee, bronchitis and asthma, can't laugh or I will have a coughing fit!

Have you ever considered P.A.N.D.A.S. as a cause of these bizarre symptoms? We are dealing with this illness and reading about the cough then the limping made me instantly think PANDAS.
